Frontal sinus mucocele presenting as oculomotor nerve palsy.

چکیده
A frontal mucocele is an epithelium-lined, mucuscontaining cyst filling in the frontal sinus. It is capable of expansion to erode the surrounding structures, which may result in severe complications such as orbital infection or intracranial lesions. The clinical presentation of frontal mucoceles includes frontal headache, swelling of the upper eyelid, and ophthalmic symptoms, such as proptosis and diplopia. Oculomotor nerve palsy (ptosis) is seldom seen in patients with frontal mucoceles. It is even rare to find ptosis as the only chief complaint. An extensive literature search revealed only one such case, reported by Ehrenpreis and Biedlingmaier1 in 1995. In this report, we present another case of frontal sinus mucocele presenting with only ptosis. Endoscopic sinus surgery was performed to remove the lesion. Rapid resolution of ptosis was noted within 2 days after the operation.

Ethmoidal Mucocele Presenting as Oculomotor Nerve Paralysis
A 56-year-old male was admitted with an acute headache and sudden ptosis on the right side. No ophthalmological or neurological etiologies were apparent. A mucocele of the right posterior ethmoid sinus was observed with radiology. After the marsupialization of the mucocele via a transnasal endoscopic approach, the patient's symptoms (oculomotor nerve paralysis and headache) resolved in 4 weeks....

A 55 year-old female presented with persistent right-side facial numbness (in the areas of the first and second branches of the trigeminal nerve) and right-side ptosis. Computed tomography (CT) imaging and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed opa...

BACKGROUND Solitary involvement of the sphenoid sinus has rarely been reported in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Isolated oculomotor nerve palsy is uncommon as an initial presentation of malignant tumors of the sphenoid sinus. CASE PRESENTATION A 53-year-old woman presented with a three-month history of headache and diplopia. Neurological examination revealed complete left oculomotor nerve palsy. Ma...
متن کاملClinical features of visual disturbances secondary to isolated sphenoid sinus inflammatory diseases
BACKGROUND Visual disturbances associated with isolated sphenoid sinus inflammatory diseases (ISSIDs) are easily misdiagnosed due to the nonspecific symptoms and undetectable anatomical location. The main objective of this retrospective case series is to investigate the clinical features of visual disturbances secondary to ISSIDs. METHODS Clinical data of 23 patients with unilateral or bilate...
